Living Donor Options
ALTRUISTIC DONORS-
Altruistic donors have no relation to the recipient. They may be emotionally related or completely unknown to each other occasionally desiring to donate to a renal patient who has been waiting on the list. At SLR, we specialize in the performance of this type of transplant. Our specialized transplant physicians and pscychosocial support team carefully scrutinizes these pairs to be sure the interests of all parties are protected.
LIVING DONOR PAIED EXCHANGE-
If a recipient has a willing but incompatible donor, we may be able to partner you with a similar pair and perform a paired donor exchange where 2 donor and 2 recipient operations go on at the same time, or you may be entered into a chain with numerous other pairs of incompatible donor recipient pairs. For instance if you the recipient are blood type A and your willing donor is blood type B, you are incompatible but you may team up with another recipient who is blood type B and has a donor who is blood type A and “swap” donors, enabling each of you to get a compatible transplant. These are specialized services, that we will take great pains to provide.
INCOMPATIBLE TRANSPLANTS
In certain special circumstances, we may be able to use modern methods to provide extra treatment so you can have a living donor transplant that previously was “incompatible” These procedures may entail incurring extra immunosuppression and risk but may be the only ay certain patients can be successfully transplanted.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE DONOR SURGERY
We are proud of our tradition of employing the most modern techniques to provide laparoscopic donor surgery with the most minimal of incisions. High tech high definition(HD) imaging allows our surgeons to provide the safest envirnment in which to perform your nephrectomy and allow short, minimal pain hospital stays.
