The Center for Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Disease at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center is under the leadership of Dr. Julio Teixeira, a nationally recognized expert in the surgical treatment of obesity. Dr. Teixeira’s practice is solely dedicated to minimally invasive surgery, which offers patients less pain, fewer wound complications, quicker recovery time, and faster return to normal activity than traditional surgery.
Since 1998, Dr. Teixeira has performed over 2000 laparoscopic gastric bypass, banding and revision procedures. Having an interest in clinical research, he has participated in the FDA multi-center clinical trial for the Swedish Adjustable Band and has research protocols for Pediatric/Adolescent Weight Loss Surgery.
Since 2000, Dr. Teixeira has trained other surgeons through introductory and advanced courses in minimally invasive weight loss surgery techniques. He has published in medical journals and has presented his findings and clinical outcomes at numerous professional society meetings worldwide.
Board certified in General Surgery, Dr. Teixeira is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES). He has been listed on Castle Connolly’s & New York Magazine’s list of Top 100 Minimally Invasive Surgeons.
