Dr. Sharon M. Rosenbaum Smith is a nationally renowned breast cancer surgeon. In addition to her active practice at the Comprehensive Breast Center at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Rosenbaum Smith serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, is an Associate Attending in the Department of Breast Surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center, is the Medical Director of the Comprehensive Breast Clinic at St. Luke’s Hospital Center, and is the founder and current Co-Director of the Breast Oncology Fellowship program at the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center and the Beth Israel Medical Center.
Dr. Rosenbaum Smith is a graduate of New York Medical College, completed her surgical residency and training at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York, and was chosen to be one of the first Fellows in the Breast Oncology Fellowship at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital / Cornell Medical Center.
Dr. Rosenbaum Smith is committed to providing each and every one of her patients with the best possible care. This is accomplished by providing personal attention in a caring and compassionate environment. Her philosophy is based in her belief in treating the entire patient, not just the disease. Understanding the concerns of many patients and their family members, she is typically able to provide same-day diagnosis, including by performing in-office ultrasound with same day results and needle biopsy of breast masses with same day results. Each patient leaves her office with a complete outlined treatment plan tailored to the individual needs of that patient.
Since joining the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in 2000, Dr. Rosenbaum Smith has played an important role in developing the curriculum and philosophy of the hospital's Comprehensive Breast Center. While state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are the hallmark of its services, she takes matters a step further. Innovative support programs that are designed to engage the mind, body and spirit in the healing process are available for all patients. Support groups for breast cancer patients, meditation and yoga classes, and stress management workshops are offered to patients. These workshops have played a key role in alleviating stress in many breast cancer patients.
Dr. Rosenbaum Smith has authored numerous publications in her field in both authoritative books and in peer-reviewed medical journals, has presented at national professional conferences, and is frequently called upon by major television news networks, radio networks, numerous magazines and other outlets as an expert resource on breast cancer topics, including breast cancer treatments, prevention, testing, new studies and other matters related to the disease. She is a member in good standing of all major breast surgical oncology societies.
