From the Doctor

Dr. Fadi Attiyeh is a surgical oncologist who is board certified in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery. He did his fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Following his training, he was recruited to the attending staff at Memorial Hospital where he continued his work in cancer of the colon and rectum. In 1981, Dr. Attiyeh was recruited at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, where he expanded his surgical expertise to the treatment of tumors and other surgical diseases of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas. He has accumulated a large experience in the treatment of liver metastases, and in Whipple's resections. He serves as Chief of the Hepatobiliary/Pancreatic Service

Dr. Attiyeh's other areas of interest include Colorectal Cancer. In particular, he has extensive experience in the treatment of rectal cancer, where the emphasis is on total mesorectal excision with preservation of sphincteric, sexual, and urinary functions.

In addition, he recently started a program of intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy for peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Dr. Attiyeh was elected president of the New York Surgical Society (2006-2007), and president of the New York Cancer Society (2007-2008)
