As Chairman of the Department of Surgery from 1989 to 1998, Dr. David Tilson developed a strong tradition of both clinical and basic science research at St. Luke's-Roosevelt (SLR) Hospital dedicated to the investigation of aneurysmal disease. Dr. George Todd , world-renowned expert in the clinical treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, joined the St. Luke's-Roosevelt Department of Surgery as Walter Wichern Chairman of the Department of Surgery in 2000. With his arrival, a multidisciplinary center dedicated to the treatment of aneurysms was established at SLR. The center treats patients with aneurysms involving the abdominal aorta , as well as the thoracic aorta with the latest surgical technologies including minimally invasive stent-grafting, robotics and alternative minimally invasive incisions. Aneurysms involving other blood vessels within the abdomen, neck, brain, arms and legs are also treated with these minimally invasive techniques. Under Dr. Todd's direction, a multidisciplinary staff has been organized and includes vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, ultrasound technicians and world renowned scientists in the area of vascular biology and biomedical engineering. Dr. Tilson's basic science research has been continued within the expanded surgical science laboratories on S&R 11 at St. Luke's Hospital. An active clinical outcomes and clinical trials arm of our aneurysm research is spear-headed by Dr. John Lantis, Division of Vascular Surgery |
