Research
The Division has the most active research program in the Department of Surgery which is reflected in numerous publications and presentations in national and international meetings.
The Center for Surgical Simulation and Robotics is staffed by two research residents and a fellow and perform year round research in the development of new tools and techniques with a special interest in robotics and NOTES.
The Center for Bariatric Surgery and Metabolic Diseases has an active research program with numerous IRB protocols.
A close collaboration with the New York Obesity Research Center based in St. Luke’s Hospital has lead to NIH funded research in GI hormones and the mechanism of Diabetes remission.
Other close collaborations with the Department of Psychology at Columbia University and the Department of Psychiatry have been developed with several protocols looking at correlations between preoperative testing and outcomes.
