About Dr. Harvey
Dr. Harvey is board certified in general surgery and fellowship trained in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery.
Born and raised in the island of Bermuda, he was educated in England and attended medical school at Oxford University and the Royal Free and University College Medical School in London, graduating in 2000. His postgraduate training in general surgery was divided equally between academic hospitals in London and his surgical residency here at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt. He developed a particular interest in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, and, at his graduation, was awarded the Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident Achievement Award. He then furthered his experience with a clinical fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center, before returning to St. Luke’s-Roosevelt to join the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery as an attending.
Dr. Harvey is actively pursuing research in the areas of weight loss surgery and the surgical treatment of type 2 diabetes. In collaboration with Dr. Julio Teixeira, he has pursued research in the developing fields of single-incision surgery and scarless natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery. He has been invited to present his research findings at national and international meetings. He is active in the education of medical students from Columbia University and he is developing a new program of skills-based training for the residents in the simulation lab.
