A Day at the Spa

In partnership with the Jewish Community Center at the Samuel Priest Rose Building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, women diagnosed with cancer are treated to their choice of spa-type amenities including massage, yoga, meditation, Reiki as well as workshops on beauty and personal improvement, nutrition and health education. Spa Day is an opportunity to luxuriate and celebrate. The event is always greatly anticipated. Appointments for each event are made on a first come, first served basis.

Sunday, June 4
National Cancer Survivors Day

National Cancer Survivors Day® is an annual, worldwide Celebration of Life that is held in hundreds of communities throughout the United States and other participating countries. It is usually held on the first Sunday in June as a symbolic event to demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality. It also is a day to recognize the valuable support and care given to patients with cancer by families, friends, researchers and healthcare providers. The SLR Comprehensive Breast Center participates in a special gathering for survivors and loved ones that includes a brief program, a lavish buffet lunch and entertainment.

Sunday, September 10
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
Race for the Cure

For more than 20 years, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has been a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs. Through the Komen Race for the Cure®, the Foundation is fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world, including projects at St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals. As part of the delegation representing Continuum Cancer Centers of New York, the staff of our Comprehensive Breast Center helped the group garner recognition as the second largest hospital team in the 2005 Komen Race for the Cure in New York City.

Spring and Fall (TBA)
Ruben Breast Cancer Symposium

With support from The Selma and Lawrence Ruben Foundation, we annually hold the Ruben Breast Cancer Symposium in the Spring and again in the Fall. Often held in the early evening and includes a buffet dinner, the program typically features notable specialists who speak about advances in cancer treatment and address issues of concern to women with breast cancer, as well as their loved ones and friends. Attendance is free and open to the public. Lectures are announced in special bulletins, which can be mailed to you. Please ask to be put on the mailing list by calling our reservation line at 212-523-7082

All year long
Artist in Residence Program

Conceived by The Creative Center, a community of artists and supporters, the Hospital Artist in Residence is a model volunteer program that brings the talents of an artist to patients with cancer who are undergoing treatment in the hospital. Once a week, the artist-volunteer visits and creates art with patients in units throughout the hospital where cancer treatment takes place. This opportunity for creative expression fosters a sense of optimism and hopefulness that is invaluable to the healing process for hundreds of patients.
